Leipzig economic region

Leipzig is in the top ten in terms of attracting companies, as ranked by the Financial Times following a study of 350 European cities and regions. The region has built the foundation for this outstanding performance over the past 25 years: cost-effective and modern premises with outstanding transport links, a diverse range of industries, a consistently large pool of highly qualified workers, a varied research landscape including the University, higher education institutions, Fraunhofer, Helmholtz and Max Planck institutes, and the spectacular quality of life on offer in the culturally rich city of Leipzig. Market leaders from a variety of key sectors – automotive manufacturers BMW and Porsche, global logistics firm DHL – have invested billions here, and a dynamic SME sector has sprung up in the surrounding area. The emphasis here is on biotechnology, the automotive industry, service providers and numerous logistics firms. The express air cargo hub also drives growth in the region.
